We got a little bit later start than we planned today but still managed to be at Doug and Joan's house by 9:20 am to help with a lot of wedding prep. The girls wanted to hang out in Sunriver and go swimming while we worked on wedding stuff, which was fine with us. They went to the North Pool and then to Sharc again. Tonight, while the adults were at dinner, the kids had pizza and played a few volleyball games before heading back to the houses to play board games. Both girls said it was a great day.
Doug and Joan's house is starting to look like a regular RV park as it now has 3 motor homes on the property. We are having to get creative with parking as people come and go for different things. It's pretty fun to see everyone coming together for this special occasion.
Buttercup was delivered at noon. Wayne and Bill spent a lot longer than planned trying to hook up the kegs to the taps, but that didn't deter Wayne from practicing a keg stand.
It turns out that Stella beer kegs require a European tap, which no one knew until after about 3 hours had been spent trying and trying and even taking the keg to a local bar to see if they could get it to work. Bill and Cathy are in charge of picking up the right tap tomorrow and getting that taken care of.
While all this fun was going on, the work crew took a break in the shade. Thankfully, today was 88 degrees, which was much more tolerable than yesterday's 96.
Tom helped string lights from tree to tree and tree to house for the wedding. It's going to be gorgeous when the sun goes down and the lights start to twinkle.
While all this work was being done outside, I spent my time with this stuff...
We had a lot of burlap to prepare for the tables.
This was our practice table. It turned out just like Sara envisioned, score! We still have a lot to do like press the table clothes, cut down a few more wine bottles and place the pine cones, but this is the general idea.
The tables and chairs were supposed to be delivered at 2pm. At 3:30 we got the call that they were still 40-60 minutes out. The adults had reservations for dinner so we headed back to Sunriver to get ready, while the folks staying at the house took charge of the table delivery.
We went to one of the best restaurants you never would expect to come across.
It is literally in the middle of nowhere, although the address says it is in Silver Lake, OR. The setting is beautiful. Cowboy Dinner Tree is worth the hour long drive!
Some friends of Doug and Joan's drove their motor homes and hosted a pre-dinner "pre funk" while we waited for our 7:30 reservation.
It was quite the set up. They don't fool around when they bring out the motor homes around here! We spent the time chatting and taking a lot of pictures with people.
Sara's sister, Lyn, arrived today along with Alexa, Josh, Phil, and a handful of others.
Cowboy Dinner Tree is a fun place. It is this little shack with several additions over the years.
This is the sign above the front door.
Inside the main dining area. When we went there back in October, we ate in the far room. The walls are covered with dollar bills. The bills were last collected in March and donated. We added a few new ones tonight. :)
Our group of 19 was seated in the enclosed porch. We had a "kids" table and a "geriatric" table. The kids table had iced tea, pink lemonade or water while the geriatric table had Metamucil. Okay, not really, but Wayne did try to order it for all of them. :)
There are two grills in this picture. The one in the foreground is the old grill that has cooked thousands and thousands of steaks for the last 20 years. Under the lights in the back is the new grill they recently built to replace the old one.
Dinner starts with salad, followed by Cowboy bean soup and sweet yeast rolls. Then comes the main course. You can get either a 30-ounce steak or a whole chicken with a baked potato. Dessert is homemade shortbread cake with fresh berries and cream. So simple. So delicious!
Craig stunned us all and ate his entire steak!
It was fun to celebrate these two in cowboy fashion.
I had to get a picture of them in the wagon since they're getting hitched soon. :)
Tom got in on the fun and manned the saloon while some of the guys practiced roping the wooden cow.
The drive back was a very full one. We saw a lot of animals on our way. The most surprising was the skunk standing in the middle of the road as we came up to a stop sign. Luckily Tom spotted it and stopped before the skunk got startled and sprayed. Just imagine a long drive in a skunkified car! Ewww!
